Jewelry Busts II

Then there is this, this one scares and excites me a bit, but it could be wonderful.  Two words: Paper Mache!

I just happen to have a mannequin that has a beautiful neck shape, great to show off long necklaces and chokers alike.  I covered her in plastic wrap to try to ensure a clean release, then continued to cover her upper bust and neck in paper mache.  I gotta say that it seemed a lot easier back when I was younger.  I also made up way too much paste.  The paper I used happens to be unprinted newspaper, so it should give the same results as those old balloon pinatas we used to make, but without the text.  She’s drying now.  And then I will shape it up, add some stability and a stand.  Here’s hoping this is a win.

And yes I know my mannequin is ripped, just look at those abs.  Also kitties love to help with paper mache, introducing Puck, the newest to my clan.

Jewlery Busts I

I haven’t been too happy with the selection of jewelry displays so I have been working on making my own.  Here are a couple examples:

In this attempt I tried taking a store bought bust and breaking it down into its components and rebuilding for a sturdier structure.  After taking off the fabric covering I tried filling in the neck slope with an air drying clay.  I had planned on then gluing some tissue paper down for a nice crinkle texture, but it’s way too top heavy and won’t stay standing.  So failed attempt number 1, though I may work with the concept more.

Light Box

This is what I have been up to.  Gotta do some not fun things in order to get to the fun things, like making some money selling my stuff.

Here is my experimental light box that I’ve made in hopes of taking better quality pictures of my wonderful goods for you all.

Made from PVC the first structure was way too big, so I cut it down and it’s still a bit much to handle.  The reflector lights with high lumen output should give me a nice natural light.  And the white sheet diffuser will cut down on the shadows in any pictures.

You get to see a bit of my workspace in there.  Although most of my chainmailling is done in front of the TV.
